Throughout the year, the Friends run activities and programs especially for children as well as programs suitable for entire families. Please see below and our events page for our full listing of activities and programs.

Earth Day at Assabet River NWR

Join us at the Visitor Center for crafts, games and sustainability themed fun to celebrate Earth Day!

Refuge Fledglings Hour — Nature-themed Program Series for Kids

Join Refuge staff for Refuge Fledglings Hour, a nature-themed program series that includes crafts, stories, and games or songs that relate to a different topic each month. This month’s theme will cover the life cycle of a Yellow Spotted Salamander. Check the Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge facebook page for up to date information.

Programs are usually held the 4th Friday of every month from 10:30am – 11:30 AM. For 2 to 5 year olds; siblings welcome. Held at the Visitor Center.

Intro to Vernal Pools for Kids

Warming temperatures and spring rains usher in a very special habitat type that is vital for the life-cycle of our amphibians and reptiles. Come join us at the Visitor Center where we will learn more about our vernal pools and see some live animals!

Animal Adventures: a Live Animal Presentation

Parents and their children are invited to learn about animals that live in or along rivers during this special program at the Visitor Center. Animal Adventures will present a variety of animals that could live in the Assabet River, or in a river in South America or Madagascar. Learn about their habitats, diet, and other interesting facts!
